Open Research Laboratory

Our Open Research Laboratory, located in Tokyo, is available for customers to learn emulsification, dispersion, and solubilization technology, as well as basic cosmetic technology ranging from skin care to make up. We are also involved in the codevelopment and creation of new products with our customers.

Training Course Guidelines

  • Basic Courses: Three (3) basic training courses and one (1) application training course are available (see course details below).
    Basic Training Course 1 (POE Type Surfactant Course)
    Basic Training Course 2 (Food additives and natural surfactants)
    Basic Training Course 3 (Pre-mixed Emulsifying Complexes)
    Application Training Course  (Emulsion Technology)
  • Duration: Each course is designed for five (5) days, but several courses may be combined for a longer period of 10, 15, or 20 days.
  • Professional Feedback: Meetings and discussions are conducted regarding your specific development topics. Our specialists will be happy to offer advice and solutions to your current problems and issues. It is also possible to combine the basic training course with a personalized, specific project.
  • Marketing Trends: On the final day of the course, an optional program is offered where you can learn about recent trends in cosmetic market and make prototype formulations to match existing market products.
  • NIKKOL Course: We also offer a special course focused on the application of the most recent NIKKOL raw materials, which will help you to understand our products better and learn how to use them.
  • Customization: Various customized courses can be arranged upon request.

Basic Training Course 1 (POE Type Surfactant Course)

This course is designed for you if you would like to:

  • Learn about basic features and methods of use of POE type (ethoxylated) surfactants.
  • Participate in a novice training session for formulating lab work.
  • Review the basics of formulating and fortify your laboratory experience.

  • Lecture on basic cosmetic technology
  • Basic experiments to grasp characteristics of POE type surfactants
  • Formulation of a cream by phase inversion emulsification method, including observation of how the choice of emulsifier influences the condition and appearance of emulsion
  • Study of the functions and features of oily materials (waxes, liquid oils etc. )
  • Formulation of a prototype product to match existing market benchmark

Basic Training Course 2 (Food additives and natural surfactants)

This course is designed for you if you would like to:

  • Learn about basic features and methods of use of Polyglyceryl Fatty Acid Esters or Lecithin Derivatives
  • Formulate and evaluate non-POE systems with original textures and properties

  • Lecture on basic cosmetic technology
  • Basic experiments to grasp characteristics of surfactants
  • Formulation of a cream and observation of how the choice of emulsifier (deference of grade, alkyl chain length, etc) influences the condition and appearance of emulsion
  • Study of the functions and features of oily materials (waxes, liquid oils etc. )
  • Formulation of a prototype product to match existing market benchmark ...etc.

Basic Training Course 3 (Pre-mixed Emulsifying Complexes)

This course is designed for you if you would like to:

  • Learn about basic features and methods of use of Pre-mixed Emulsifying Complexes
  • Develop emulsions with unique functions and textures
