Japan has also announced a 46% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by\n        2030\u00a0(compared to 2013), and is considering making it mandatory for Prime-listed companies to disclose\n        emissions, indicating calls for action at a national level. The NIKKOL GROUP has set a CO<sub>2<\/sub> emission reduction\n        target of 30% in the Manufacturing Division and 15%\u201325% in other divisions (compared to FY2019) by FY2025 and\n        monitors CO<sub>2<\/sub> emissions at each group company every month to promote reduction activities.\n      <\/p>\n      <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"num\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nikkol.co.jp\/wp-content\/themes\/nikkol-ver1\/assets\/images\/csr\/csr03-new\/ren-photo03-02-en.png\" \/>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n  <h3 id=\"02\" class=\"headline-lv4\"><span>Aiming for zero CO<sub>2<\/sub> emissions from electricity at three domestic factories<\/span><\/h3>\n  <div class=\"row row-md gap-mb4 container02\">\n    <div class=\"col\">\n      <p>\n        In October 2023, Nippon Surfactant Industries\u2019 Utsunomiya and Nasu factories and the Nasu Factory of Bergerac\n        Japon switched to CO<sub>2<\/sub>-free electricity,* resulting in zero CO<sub>2<\/sub> emissions from electricity. This switch will\n        decrease approximately 2,752 tons of CO<sub>2<\/sub> per year (compared to 2019).\n        <span\n          >*The Green Basic Plan provided by TEPCO Energy Partner, Inc.: A plan that is compatible with RE100, combining\n          the average power of all power sources with FIT non-fossil certificates (with tracking) and non-FIT non-fossil\n          certificates designated for renewable energy (with power source attribute information).<\/span\n        >\n      <\/p>\n      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nikkol.co.jp\/wp-content\/themes\/nikkol-ver1\/assets\/images\/csr\/csr03-new\/ren-photo03-03-en.png\" \/>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"col\">\n      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nikkol.co.jp\/wp-content\/themes\/nikkol-ver1\/assets\/images\/csr\/csr03-new\/ren-photo03-04-en.png\" \/>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n  <div class=\"row row-md gap-mb4 container03\">\n    <div class=\"col\">\n      <h3 id=\"03\" class=\"headline-lv4 csr-headicon_haisui\">Energy-saving DO (dissolved oxygen) meters<\/h3>\n      <p>\n        Nippon Surfactant Industries is changing the equipment installed in its factories to energy-saving electric\n        motors that have a smaller environmental impact, and is also actively promoting inverter control. In addition,\n        lighting equipment is being switched from fluorescent lights to LEDs. One example of inverter control is the\n        blower at the wastewater treatment plant, which consumed a lot of electricity during 24-hour continuous\n        operation. By installing a DO (dissolved oxygen) meter at the wastewater treatment plant and inverter\n        controlling the blower based on the DO (dissolved oxygen) value, the blower output can be adjusted according to\n        the amount of oxygen required, reducing unnecessary power consumption and promoting energy conservation.\n      <\/p>\n      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nikkol.co.jp\/wp-content\/themes\/nikkol-ver1\/assets\/images\/csr\/csr03-new\/ren-photo03-05.png\" \/>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"col\">\n      <h3 id=\"05\" class=\"headline-lv4 csr-headicon_building\">Solar power generation<\/h3>\n      <p>\n        Nippon Surfactant Industries\u2019 Utsunomiya and Nasu factories use electricity generated by solar power. The annual\n        power generation in Utsunomiya is 45,736 kWh (actual results for FY2021, approximately 0.8% of purchased\n        electricity), which is equivalent to the amount used in logistics buildings. The solar power generation system\n        will be expanded in Nasu in 2024, with a maximum power generation of 600 kWh, which will cover approximately 30%\n        of the electricity used throughout the site. We will continue to promote the use of renewable energy in the\n        future.\n      <\/p>\n      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nikkol.co.jp\/wp-content\/themes\/nikkol-ver1\/assets\/images\/csr\/csr03-new\/ren-photo03-06-en.png\" \/>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n  <div class=\"row row-md gap-mb4 container04\">\n    <div class=\"col ecoaction\">\n      <h3 id=\"04\" class=\"headline-lv4 csr-headicon_dropper\">Eco-Action 21<\/h3>\n      <p>\n        Eco-Action 21 is a unique Japanese environmental management system established by Japan\u2019s Ministry of the\n        Environment. Companies that adopt the system are required to improve the environmental performance of the\n        products they produce, sell, and provide, and to improve their services. The results of these efforts are\n        annually published in an environmental management report. Nippon Surfactant Industries has acquired this\n        certification every year since 2012, and in August 2021, the company was recognized by the Eco-Action 21 Central\n        Secretariat as a \u201ccertified permanent business.\u201d\n      <\/p>\n      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nikkol.co.jp\/wp-content\/themes\/nikkol-ver1\/assets\/images\/csr\/csr03-new\/ren-photo03-10.png\" \/>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"col sun\">\n      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nikkol.co.jp\/wp-content\/themes\/nikkol-ver1\/assets\/images\/csr\/csr03-new\/ren-photo03-08.png\" \/>\n      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nikkol.co.jp\/wp-content\/themes\/nikkol-ver1\/assets\/images\/csr\/csr03-new\/ren-photo03-09-en.png\" \/>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n  <h3 id=\"06\" class=\"headline-lv4\">Energy efficient gas cogeneration<\/h3>\n  <div class=\"row row-md gap-mb4 container05\">\n    <div class=\"col\">\n      <p>\n        Nippon Surfactant Industries\u2019 Utsunomiya factory has installed a gas cogeneration system. The electricity\n        produced by this system is used for in-factory processes, and the heat is used for the water supply\u2019s steam\n        boiler. The use of the cogeneration system has achieved an energy saving rate of 15.1% (compared to conventional\n        systems). This has reduced 11.3 kL\/year in crude oil equivalents and approximately 30 t\/year in CO<sub>2<\/sub> emissions.\n        (Installed in 2015)\n      <\/p>\n      <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"gus\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nikkol.co.jp\/wp-content\/themes\/nikkol-ver1\/assets\/images\/csr\/csr03-new\/ren-photo03-11-en.png\" \/>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"col\">\n      <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"num\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nikkol.co.jp\/wp-content\/themes\/nikkol-ver1\/assets\/images\/csr\/csr03-new\/ren-photo03-12-en.png\" \/>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n  <h3 id=\"07\" class=\"headline-lv4\">Reducing environmental impact at overseas factories<\/h3>\n  <div class=\"row row-md gap-mb4 container05\">\n    <div class=\"col\">\n      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nikkol.co.jp\/wp-content\/themes\/nikkol-ver1\/assets\/images\/csr\/csr03-new\/ren-photo03-13.png\" \/>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"col\">\n      <p>\n        Nikko Chemicals Singapore has optimized its operations by shutting down the cooling tower every time production\n        is finished. The cooling tower was previously in operation 24 hours a day, so this measure has reduced\n        electricity usage by 540,000 kWh (43%), water usage by 18,000 m3 (73%), and CO<sub>2<\/sub> emissions by 250 tons (45%) per\n        year.\n      <\/p>\n      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nikkol.co.jp\/wp-content\/themes\/nikkol-ver1\/assets\/images\/csr\/csr03-new\/ren-photo03-14-en.png\" \/>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n  <p class=\"headline-new --white\">Initiatives to Reduce Environmental Impact\uff5cR&#038;D<\/p>\n\n  <div class=\"row row-md gap-mb4 container06\">\n    <div class=\"col zeb\">\n      <h3 id=\"08\" class=\"headline-lv4 csr-headicon_haisui\">ZEB Ready (An energy-saving system for buildings)<\/h3>\n      <p>\n        ZEB (Net Zero Energy Building) is a certification system for buildings that are constructed with the aim of\n        achieving both a comfortable indoor environment and energy conservation. The Nikko Chemicals R&#038;D Center was\n        rebuilt in 2022 as an energy-saving laboratory. The building has been certified as \u201cZEB Ready\u201d through an\n        external evaluation by BELS (Building Energy Efficiency Evaluation System), and has reduced the energy required\n        to less than 50% of the previous level.\n      <\/p>\n      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nikkol.co.jp\/wp-content\/themes\/nikkol-ver1\/assets\/images\/csr\/csr03-new\/ren-photo03-15-en.png\" \/>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"col\">\n      <h3 id=\"09\" class=\"headline-lv4 csr-headicon_building\">Environmentally friendly manufacturing<\/h3>\n      <p>\n        Nikko Chemicals has been working for many years on environmentally friendly manufacturing by applying\n        bioengineering. We are devising bio-based technologies by applying fermentation technology using microorganisms,\n        developing original enzymes, enzyme reaction technology, and other initiatives. In another example,\u00a0 we have\n        been participating in the MATSURI Project* as a corporate partner since August 2022. We are working with various\n        companies and governments from a wide variety of industries to develop sustainable products using algae.\n        <span>*The MATSURI Project is a Japanese corporate collaboration project using algae.<\/span>\n      <\/p>\n      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nikkol.co.jp\/wp-content\/themes\/nikkol-ver1\/assets\/images\/csr\/csr03-new\/ren-photo03-16.png\" \/>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n  <p class=\"headline-new\">Effective Resource Use<\/p>\n\n  <div class=\"row row-md gap-mb4 container07\">\n    <div class=\"col ecoaction\">\n      <h3 id=\"10\" class=\"headline-lv4 csr-headicon_haisui\">NIKKOL ECO ACTION<\/h3>\n      <p>\n        To contribute to the realization of a sustainable society, Nikko Chemicals devised its NIKKOL ECO-Friendly\n        Policy, and has been implementing NIKKOL ECO ACTION since 2023 as a measure to reduce industrial waste by\n        shipping and selling products with only minor damage to the exterior or container of the product and that meet\n        the existing quality standards.\n      <\/p>\n      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nikkol.co.jp\/wp-content\/themes\/nikkol-ver1\/assets\/images\/csr\/csr03-new\/ren-photo03-17.png\" \/>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"col\">\n      <h3 id=\"11\" class=\"headline-lv4 csr-headicon_building\">Reusing water and wastewater treatment<\/h3>\n      <p>\n        At Nippon Surfactant Industries\u2019 Utsunomiya factory, we have introduced water recycling equipment in some\n        processes carried out within the facility. In addition, by installing a 1,4-dioxane removal device in the\n        wastewater treatment process, we are achieving the target values and are working to reduce our environmental\n        impact. This device is the first of its kind used by a private company in Japan that can treat industrial\n        wastewater, and it is also the first in Japan to use a multi-stage series system (excluding experimental\n        models). We strive to protect the environment by reusing water and reducing wastewater from the facility.\n      <\/p>\n      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nikkol.co.jp\/wp-content\/themes\/nikkol-ver1\/assets\/images\/csr\/csr03-new\/ren-photo03-18.png\" \/>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n  <h3 id=\"12\" class=\"headline-lv4\">Using environmentally friendly materials<\/h3>\n  <div class=\"row row-md gap-mb4\">\n    <div class=\"col mark\">\n      <p>\n        <span>Sample container, pallet, cushioning material, bundling band, shipping mark<\/span>We actively use\n        environmentally friendly materials not only in our manufacturing processes for sample containers, pallets,\n        cushioning materials, cable ties, and shipping marks, but also in the various materials we use in our business.\n        Starting in 2023, when holding expos and promoting sales to customers, Nikko Chemicals\u2019 Personal Care\n        International Business Unit uses formulation sample containers made from intermediate resins that were\n        previously discarded. Starting in 2023, Nippon Surfactant Industries has also turned its attention to reducing\n        its environmental impact on the ocean by introducing OBP (Ocean Bound Plastic) pallets made from recycled\n        plastic waste that would otherwise present a high risk of leakage into the environment.
